What is JOIN HANDS DAY?

JOIN HANDS DAY is a national day of volunteering that brings youth and adults together to improve their own communities. ?This special day generates awareness about the powerful impact grassroots volunteerism has on communities across the nation while bringing youth and adults together to build lasting friendships across generations.? The new partnerships will be an important first step in bringing more young people into leadership roles in many organizations.

The last few years the Child & Family Institute of Aptos and Christ Lutheran Church have joined together with all other Lutheran Churches in Santa Cruz County to fill over 200 backpacks for teens and elementary children in Santa Cruz County public schools.

The ?Join Hands Day? grant money received from Thrivent will be used once again to purchase backpacks for children in the Santa Cruz County public schools. The $1,000 grant will be used in a joint ?Operation Backpack? project of all Lutheran Churches in Santa Cruz County.

The Project: To have children, youth and adults work together to collect school supplies for children in transition in our local schools. Anyone can join in collecting the needed items. [see list below]. Families, friends, neighbors, local community groups, and congregation members are all welcome to ?Join Hands Day?.

What can you do? The grant money will be used to purchase backpacks. We just need the school supplies! Adults can talk with families in their neighborhoods to get them involved in the ?Join Hands Day? project, families and friends can bring youth together to collect needed supplies to fill the backpacks. Youth groups or Sunday School Classes can also participate with their families. On Youth Sunday, July 29th, immediately following service we had everyone join in to stuff the backpacks.
